ACADEMIC VIDEOLECTURES

Overview

The Academic Video Lectures Service offers a rich repository of recorded lectures from various educational, research, and cultural events organized by the University of Athens, providing easy access to high-quality academic content.

Through the OpenDelos platform, users benefit from a fully integrated system that facilitates the upload, management, and viewing of academic video content, ensuring seamless access to valuable educational resources.

Lectures can be recorded through IP cameras installed at NKUA premises (either in combination with live streaming or separately) or via other methods (e.g. camera recording, videoconference recording, or other screen recording tools). In the first case, recorded lectures are automatically uploaded to the OpenDelos platform upon completion. In the second case, the lecturer or another Content Manager is responsible for uploading the video manually.

Note: The cameras capture educational and informational activities, focusing strictly on the lecture area, including the stage, the whiteboard, and the projection screen, as they exclude participants such as students.

More information on managing recorded material can be found in the ‘Content Management & Upload’ section.

How to watch?

Students and public viewers have free access to the Video Lectures service, through which they can search for and watch public video lectures of interest.
Users can search for video content using keywords, subject areas, departments, event names, or academic years. Search results can be sorted by author, date, title, or popularity.

Management of recordings

The technical management and supervision of recordings and recorded material is a complex and demanding process.

Our policy is to oversee and provide access, functionality, and platform management for the Delos platform. However, individual departments are responsible for the regular oversight of their own content, necessary for a balanced and collaborative approach to workload management.

The service operates on a "Best Effort" basis, not a "Guaranteed Quality" model. Due to the complex and automated technical solution, 100% recording accuracy is not guaranteed. For important events, we recommend using an external recording team.

Quality Control

Automated recordings are randomly checked for quality. In cases where a live stream or recording is found to be empty, it is disabled, and the responsible faculty member is informed.

Successful Examples

  • The Departments of Informatics and Telecommunications, Mathematics, Physics, and Economics provide live streaming and lecture recording services to their students.
  • Events held in central auditoriums are live-streamed and recorded upon request by the scientific coordinators.
